The Man in the Moon

by Mary Ann Bencivengo

When we are little our parents point out to us the eyes, nose, and mouth of the moon and tell us that is the face of The Man in the Moon. This book is about the legendary character called The Man in the Moon. In these pages we see that The Man in the Moon is a good guy who wants good things for us. While it is a bedtime story for younger children, older children might enjoy it too.

Mary Ann Bencivengo

Ever since she was a child, Mary Ann Bencivengo enjoyed reading, writing, drawing, painting, and playing the piano. As an adult, she says, she hasn’t changed much — her interests are the same. She received her MFA (Master Fine Arts) in Poetry and BFA (Bachelor Fine Arts) in Creative Writing from Bowling Green State University where she also studied Visual Arts. Prior to that, from age 5 onward, she studied Classical Piano and added Contemporary Piano as well. Throughout her childhood she enjoyed running through the woods along the shores of Lake Erie exploring nature and wildlife. She found frogs and tadpoles in running streams and found turtles along the banks of the lagoon where she fed the ducks daily. She chased butterflies by day and fireflies by night. These are the things that still inspire her—nature and wildlife, and also the things that legends are made of. She teaches college courses in Children’s Literature, Mythology, and English Composition. She has also taught pre-school and has worked with after-school programs, and still enjoys working with children when she can volunteer. Her greatest inspiration is her daughter, Cassandra Ann (Cassie).
