The Magical Life of a Shaken Baby by Steve Stowe, author and Grandfather to Jared Nicholas Patton.

A true story of a six week old baby that was literally Shaken to death, but refused to take his final breath and cross over until his Journey was completed. After Jared was airlifted to The Medical College of Virginia Hospital, he was thought to be Dead on Arrival. His brain was bleeding uncontrollably as the helicopter touched down, so the staff inserted a shunt into his skull in order to drain the excess blood from his brain and induce a coma which would be the beginning of a personal war for this child to say the least. If not for the love and undeniable passion of Jared’s Nina, Kathy Stowe, the staff would have been correct in their initial analysis which was that Jared would die in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in a very short period of time. Well, Nina lived in a plastic chair next to the array of machinery that sustained her baby’s life until the magic began to happen. This relationship was so powerful, it left the Team of Expert Doctors wondering forever,”What in the hell just happened?”

Steve Stowe was trudging along, managing a small business in Hamton Virginia, with his wife, Kathy. An enormous tradgedy would change his life forever. His grandson, Jared, was airlifted to the Medical College of Virginia Hospital. Shaken Baby Syndrome was the initial diagnosis given to the family. Steve later founded Shaken Baby Syndrome of Virginia with the help of his wife, Kathy. He spends the majority of his time striving to fulfill the promises he gave to his chairished grandson, Jared. From the tradgedy of Jared's Death, Steve has been instrumental in the passing of two bills in Virginia that make mandatory the education and awareness of Shaken Baby Syndrome. He and Kathy conduct presentations anywhere they are needed in the Child Abuse forum. Invited to be a member of the Governors Commitee on Child Abuse and Neglect, Steve has also been chosen as the number one Stakeholder for HJ 632, which is the case study approved by the House, Senate, and signed by The Governor, to take Jared's Law to the next stage. It has taken Steve two years, gallons of tears, and a number of broken objects to write Jared's Journey, and his hope is that the Book may help just one Baby from suffering the way Jared did, so that his baby boy's battle will never be in vain.
