It's Love... Isn't It?

Recognizing and Beginning to Heal from a Lifetime of Abuse by John B. Crane, MD, DLFAPA

The roots of lifelong painful, unhappy relationships are planted firmly in childhood. Abuse of all kinds--- emotional, physical, neglect and abandonment, sexual-- is disturbingly common, and the inevitable outcome is a sense of absent self-worth, of never being able to please anyone or do anything "right," and a never-ending drive to seek nurturing, care and love from the important people in one's life, even when they're abusive.
Here, Dr. Crane addresses these issues in depth, presents some typical case histories, and discusses ways through which you may begin to find your path out of life-long pain.

Dr. John B. Crane is a psychiatrist, in practice for over forty years. He is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, for whom he has served as an examiner, and is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. Dr. Crane lives and works in a small town near St. Louis, in the middle of Missouri wine country, where he sees patients from childhood to geriatrics. This presents a unique opportunity to follow the development of psychiatric conditions in families, especially those growing out of abusive, neglectful relationships.
