Curious Creatures of Canada (Alberta phase)
Andrew J. 'Estubar' Sawatzky
Curious Creatures of Canada (Alberta phase), is an illustrated and descriptive alphabetical listing. Though the creatures are imaginary, some resemble real counterparts, for example, the Relbaat and Wrungneck. The book concept, encouraged by friends, came primarily out of an interest in wordplay, geography and art. Combining the three was a stimulating and challenging task. Each illustration is accompanied by two side by side aquaria which serve as diversions and unifying factors.
Andrew J. Sawatzky was born and raised in rural Alberta, east of Carstairs/Didsbury. His father and two siblings were/are accomplished oil painters. Others in the extended family were/are also proficient in the visual arts as well as music. In the fourteen years prior to retirement, Andrew taught art at Heritage Christian School in Calgary. He lives in the Charleswood area of that city with his wife Henrietta. They have two children and four grandchildren and are followers of the Way, Jesus.
