East of Everywhere
East of Everywhere is Grayce Scholt’s third book of lyrical poems, a collection that reflects two distinctly different time periods. The first section (Then / There) are poems that re-interpret stories from the Old and New Testaments. The second (Here / Now) explores contemporary life. Scholt publishes regularly in East Village Magazine and lives in Flint, Michigan.
Even in my nineties, I still recall sitting on my mother’s lap listening to her sing the great hymns of the church or read Bible stories that meant much to her--all of which imprinted on me the power of music and words. An eclectic gathering of subjects, themes, and re-interpretations make up Part One of this collection which recounts something of the inscrutable past as told in the Bible. Part Two focuses on the inscrutable complexities of the present.
