FriesenPress employees laced up their shoes to support the CIBC Run for the Cure. A team of eleven participated in the 5km run/walk around the University of Victoria, helping to support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
I think that one of the reasons that self-publishing is finally earning respect, is because people have come to understand that while writing may be a solitary pursuit, publishing a book is not. It’s very much a collaborative effort…and it should be. It was a number of years before I read a single self-published book that was worth the paper it was written on. I think this is absolutely wonderful! The folks at FriesenPress came into the classroom and were so natural and positive with the kids. The synergy felt electric. With older kids it is a tremendous opportunity for mentorship as students see these caring and positive people in their community having literacy-oriented careers. It opens their minds to what is possible and makes them feel worthwhile when successful people are open to giving time to help them develop their thoughts and literacy skills.Read More
